Hack The Box Exam Voucher Validity and Expiration

Every exam voucher on Hack The Box Academy has a 1-year validity period regardless of how it was purchased.

  • Individual Purchases: If you purchase an exam voucher individually, it has a validity period of exactly one year starting from the moment of purchase.

  • Subscription Purchases: If you receive your exam voucher as part of a Hack The Box Academy Silver or Hack The Box Academy Gold annual subscription, your voucher will expire on the exact same date and time that your annual subscription expires. For example, if you start a subscription on July 21st, 2026, at 10:00 AM UTC, you have until July 21st, 2027, at 10:00 AM UTC to start the exam and be eligible for the retake.

Starting Your Exam and Retake Eligibility

Please take note of the following regarding exam deadlines and retake rules:

  • You can start anytime before the deadline: As long as your voucher has not expired yet, you can click "Start" on your exam. Even if you only have 48 hours (or less) left on the voucher, you are allowed to begin at any moment within that active window.

  • Your retake eligibility is safe: Starting your exam close to the expiration date does not disqualify you from a retake.

  • The one requirement: To secure that free retake, you simply need to complete the attempt and submit your exam report, even if you do not pass. As long as you submit the report from this attempt, your retake is locked in.

  • A quick recommendation: While you are welcome to use every minute of your voucher's validity, we usually recommend starting it a couple of days in advance just to be safe in case of any unexpected internet or technical connection hiccups.

Can I extend my exam voucher?

Generally speaking, we do not allow vouchers to be extended past their 1-year expiration. While we may make a discretionary exception for exceptional circumstances, this is rare and is handled on a case-by-case basis.
