Information You Can Add and Customize

Summary
Certificates from Other Vendors
Top Interests
Skills
Tools
Languages
Tagline
These sections help highlight your expertise, focus areas, and professional identity.
Editing Your Profile
The Edit Profile modal allows you to:
Review the personal information pulled from your Hack The Box account
Choose whether your full name is displayed publicly or not
Add or update your tagline
Your tagline can describe your current role, career goals, or simply be a fun way to show personality or team pride.
If you need to update core account details, you’ll be redirected to your Hack The Box account settings.
If you choose to hide your full name, your certificates will remain available on your profile. However, the dedicated certificate pages that display your full name will no longer be accessible. Any previously shared certificate links will stop working and return a 404 error.
Making Your Profile Public
By default, student dashboards are kept private.
Once you’re happy with your profile, you can make it public. A public profile can be shared externally and viewed by recruiters or anyone in your professional network.
You’re always in control—you can switch your profile back to private at any time.
Editing Individual Sections
Your public profile is split into three core blocks designed to showcase your professional background and domain expertise:
Summary
Use the Summary text box to tell your professional story in your own words.
This area allows you to define your background, technical interests, and long-term career goals within the cybersecurity industry.
Top Interests, Skills, Tools, and Languages
The Top Interests, Skills, Tools, and Languages sections all use a standardized layout interface. When editing these fields, the workspace follows these specific formatting rules:
You must select items from a predefined list of tags.
You can only add up to the maximum allowed number of entries for each category.
You can reorder, preview, or remove your entries freely before committing your changes.
Once you save your selections, these customized descriptive tags display directly on your public Hack The Box Profile.
Verified Skills (Top 30%)
There’s one important exception for Skills:
Automated Rank Tracking: The platform continuously calculates global leaderboard rankings. If your performance score puts you in the top 30% of Hack The Box users for a specific skill, the system automatically flags it as a verified competency.
Reviewing Qualifications: You can check which specific skill categories qualify for this automated badge directly from your profile dashboard options menu.
Visual Verification Indicators: When selected, verified top-tier competencies automatically display in green alongside a special checkmark badge on your public profile, signaling to visitors that your proficiency has been directly verified by the platform.
Certificates from Hack The Box
Your central HTB Profile acts as a single source of truth for your verified technical accomplishments, automatically pulling data from across our different learning platforms. If you earn official Academy certificates, they are instantly synchronized to your profile dashboard.
Step-by-Step Instructions to Share Your Certificates:
Make your data viewable: Open your settings and ensure your main profile visibility toggle is configured to Public.
Find the digital asset links: Navigate to the preferred certificate block, hover directly over the specific completion date, and copy and share the URL generated by the portal.
Access the official digital credential: Alternatively, click the specific button labeled View credentials on a certificate entry to open the public verification landing page.
If you choose to hide your full name, your certificates will remain available on your profile. However, the dedicated certificate pages that display your full name will no longer be accessible. Any previously shared certificate links will stop working and return a 404 error.
Enterprise Platform Sync Rule: Enterprise users will also see their certificates on their HTB profiles; they need to acquire and generate them first on HTB Enterprise before they become visible on the HTB Profile.
Certificates from Other Vendors
To provide potential recruiters with a complete view of your professional expertise, you can manually upload accomplishments earned outside of Hack The Box.
Access the upload modal: Open the Certifications overview panel and click the 'Add certifications' button.
Input external details: Provide the external vendor details, certificate title, and verification codes to showcase these skills alongside your automated HTB achievements.
Achievements
The Achievements area of your profile specifically captures your milestones from our advanced lab environments, including Pro Labs and Cloud Labs.
Claim your milestones: When you finish an advanced lab milestone, you must claim the certificate directly on the specific lab platform where you completed the task.
Systemic Sync Windows: Once claimed, the automated platform sync loop takes up to 24 hours to process the request. Your verified badge will appear live on your dashboard the day following your submission.
The Matrix
The Matrix is a feature on the HTB Profile that visualizes a user's training consistency over a rolling 12-month period using an interactive calendar heatmap.
What The Matrix Shows
The heatmap displays a fixed, rolling 12-month calendar grid divided into weekly blocks. Each week is represented by a color-intensity tile that reflects the total XP earned in that week. Color intensity scales across 4 shades based on the individual user's own activity levels — the range is personalized, not compared across users.
How Weeks Are Calculated
Each week starts on Monday.
A week is assigned to a calendar month based on the month its starting Monday falls in.
The heatmap always covers exactly 12 full months back from the current week— it is not configurable.
Dashboard Metrics
Alongside the heatmap grid, four summary metrics are displayed:
Weekly Average XP: Total XP divided exclusively by active weeks in the 12-month frame.
Total XP: Cumulative XP earned across the full 12-month rolling window.
Weeks Active: Number of weeks with at least some XP activity (e.g., 26 Active Weeks).
Profile Visibility
Private view: The Matrix is visible to you on your own profile at all times.
Public view: The Matrix is always visible on public profiles. Recruiters and peers can use it to verify active, ongoing training.
